Two New Town High School students recently competed in the North Dakota State Wrestling Tournament in Fargo, ND. Zeb Demaray and Wesley Snow competed in the tournament in Fargo Feb. 19-21.
Demaray, a senior at New Town High School, has been wrestling since his sophomore year. He placed first in the regional championships in the 170-pound weight class, and went on to place fourth at the state tournament. His parents are Maynard and ChrisAnn Demaray
“This year was definitely better than last year,” said Demaray.
Demaray trains for wrestling year-round and hopes to continue competing in college. He has been accepted to schools in Bismarck, and plans on majoring in either athletic training or criminal justice.
Snow, a junior, has wrestled since his freshman year. He placed third at the regionals tournament in the 182-pound class, and plans to wrestle again next year. Snow also plays football and golf, and is also a member of the Eagle Feather Dance Club.
“This year’s wrestling season was fun,” said Snow. “My teammates are like my brothers. I like this team more than anything.”
Snow plans to wrestle next year, and also hopes to eventually wrestle in college. Both boys said their parents are extremely supportive.
“My husband Gary Snow and I are very proud of our son and his commitment to his sport,” said Paula Snow, Wesley’s mother.
“And Zeb was the highest placing wrestler from New Town High School, and he will truly be missed when he graduates this year.”
